The earliest reference was a Roman bronze oil lamp — the tri-spout arrangement surrounding a central well, a form repeated across the ancient Mediterranean with the consistency of a solved problem. From there the research moved outward: open and closed link chains across cultures, ancient scales, and finally coinage — the object that travels furthest, crosses the most borders, and carries the most concentrated record of a civilization's visual language. The canopy carries that final reference in its detailing, its form, and its incised markings.
